Motorola's
MESH Networking Technology
Features
and Benefits
Motorola's Mesh
Enabled Architecture (MEA) technology offers features and
benefits you won’t find in any other mesh networking
solution. Building on know how that can only be gained from
real world deployments, it features unmatched performance,
scalability and flexibility. These qualities and more are
part of every product we offer.
Self-forming and
Self-healing Networking
Simplifies network setup and insures superb network
reliability.
Automatic Route and Node
Discovery
Network setup is automatic and transparent to users and
applications.
Dynamic Load Balancing
Minimizes network costs while maximizing the use of network
resources by automatically spreading user traffic across
local and remote access points.
Non-Line of Sight Broadband
Connectivity
Motorola Multi-Hopping™ technology eliminates line of sight
issues by routing around obstacles, interference and even
network congestion on a packet by packet basis.
Continuous Mesh Routing™
Capability
Nodes can form high performance broadband networks with or
without network infrastructure. They can even move
seamlessly between infrastructure-based and pure
peer-to-peer networks. Client nodes can be leveraged as
router/repeaters in peer-to-peer and/or infrastructure-based
networks. These nodes automatically fill in coverage gaps
and extend the range of the network.
Supports Instant Ad Hoc
Network Formation
Instant networks can be formed just by turning on
MEA-enhanced radios. This enables a wide range of
applications, from on the spot tactical broadband networking
for incident response to "plug and play" networking for
sensor or home entertainment systems.
Layer 2 Routing
Implementation
Motorola Scalable Routing (MSR™) Protocol has been optimized
to operate at Layer 2, which delivers higher performance and
transparency than Layer 3 approaches.
High Performance and Low
Latency Routing
MSR’s ultra-fast route convergence supports bandwidth
intensive and latency sensitive applications.
Mobile Soft Handoff Support
Make-before-break connections deliver seamless mobile
networking for voice, video and data applications.
Situation Aware Routing
MSR/ATP technology minimizes routing overhead while
supporting high speed client mobility.
Spectrum and Energy
Efficient Networking
MEA systems can maintain very high data rates over long
distances by hopping over a series of shorter links. Not
only does this increase end-to-end throughput, it also uses
less total system energy per bit than a direct end-to-end
connection (as in a cellular network). Spectral reuse is
also increased since each node transmits over short
distances with low transmit power, regardless of the total
end-to-end communications range. By keeping transmit power
low, interference is minimized on both a local and
system-wide basis. As a result, spectral reuse density is
much higher than is possible in a non-meshed architecture.
Support for Symmetric Data
Rates On The Uplink and Downlink
Most available wireless networking solutions have a very
client/server (end node to network) oriented view of
applications and data flows. As a result, it is common that
these networks offer limited data rates on the uplink
(client to network) connection. As more peer-to-peer and
user originated broadband data streams (dashboard video,
multimedia files, etc.) have become available, the
limitations of this client/server view has become
increasingly apparent. These limitations don’t apply to
networks based on MEA technology, as it is designed to
support a truly distributed wireless data network with
symmetric broadband data rate capacities.
Built-in Quality of Service
(QoS) and Priority (Class of Service) Management
Control of network traffic available through QoS and
Priority Management options allows for prioritization of
application traffic (i.e. VoIP, Video) and specific user
traffic Application performance is predicable and tunable
while users can be offered tiered service levels(Platinum,
Gold, Silver, etc).
SNMP Based Management
Our extensive and proven MIB delivers powerful management,
monitoring and trouble shooting capabilities. Since every
node in the network, including clients, is a managed network
element, advanced features such as network wide over-the-air
(OTA) updates are supported. |
