COURSE DESCRIPTION

PLEASE NOTE: Initial classes are now being held in person only.

This course meets CDPH requirements for Inspection and Assessment (IA) training. In this five-day course students study and put into practice U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) protocols for inspecting facilities for lead coatings and for assessing hazards posed by lead. Students learn the limits and uses of paint chip sampling and its analysis by atomic absorption; students will learn the principles of x-ray fluorescence (XRF) testing and use state-of-the-art XRF analyzers in the field. Inspector Assessors must also attend an additional 8-hour manufacturer's training before using an XRF. Visit XRF Niton Training for more information.

Students perform risk assessments under the guidance of a field-experienced instructor. Student/Instructor mandated ratios for field exercises are at most 10:1 so that each student receives the attention and instruction they need.

Students participate in detailed inspection and assessment of workshops in the field where you will collect paint-chips, soil and settled-dust samples, use a state of the art Niton XLp 300 XRF analyzer to conduct an inspection and perform a mock risk assessment.

Course Completion Documentation**:
A CDPH Course Completion Form documenting completion of the Lead Continuing Education Worker Course is given to students who attend the full day and pass the written examination. Full attendance is mandatory.

**As per CDPH, there is an additional charge to process course completion forms. We are charging a total additional fee of $36 and it will be reflected in the overall cost of this class upon enrollment.**
